US ARMED FORCES WOMEN TAKE FIFTH STRAIGHT SILVER MEDAL



Oklahoma City, OK – The U.S. Armed Forces Women Softball team reached the finals of the American Softball Association (ASA) National Championship for the sixth straight year. The 2012 ASA National Championship was held in Oklahoma City, OK from 27-30 September.

After defeating their first two opponents, the U.S. Women Armed Forces Team entered the final elimination round against the Derby Girls Combat team from Seattle, Wash. The U.S. Women Armed Forces Team played hard, but lost the final game 16-3 to earn the silver medal.

The U.S. Women Armed Forces Softball team has come home with the silver medal at the U.S. Nationals for five straight years since winning it all in 2007.

Earning All-Tournament honors were: Outfielders 1LT Alyson McWherter (Ft. Stewart, GA - Army) and SSgt Candace Dugo (Beale AFB, CA - Air Force); Utility Player SSgt Alexis Deverney (Whiteman AFB, MO - Air Force); and infielder SSgt Lindsay Ciullo (Joint Base Lewis – McChord, WA - Air Force).

The U.S. Men Armed Forces Softball team finished the tournament at 2-2 and tied for ninth overall.

The U.S. Armed Forces Softball teams were selected at the 2012 Armed Forces Softball Championship held at Fort Sill, OK. The U.S. All-Army men and women both captured the gold medals with records of 7-2 and 8-1 respectively.
