Air Force tops Marine Corps in opening game of Armed Forces Women’s Championship

Air Force Staff Sgt. Charnaine Clark of Robbins AFB, Ga. led the charge with 20-points and seven-rebounds as the Air Force defeated the Marine Corps 95-51 in the opening game of the 2016 Armed Forces Women’s Basketball Championship at the Chaparral Fitness Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland AFB, Texas.

Air Force 1st Lt. Micah Wessinger of Shaw AFB, S.C. contributed with 14-points and four-steals.  Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Alyshia Crawford led the Marines and all day-one scorers with 23-points. 

Air Force faces Navy and Marine Corps faces Army in day-two action on July 2nd. 

The 2016 Armed Forces Championship format consists of double round robin play, where each team faces one another twice for seeding.  The top two best records will face one another in the championship match to claim the 2016 Armed Forces crown.
