Army sinks Navy in match two of Armed Forces Championship

Army scores two goals over Navy to win their opening match 2-0 of the 2016 Armed Forces Men’s Soccer Championship held at Fort Benning, Ga. on 7 May.

Army Spc. Anthony Jimenez scored in the 15th minute followed by Spc. Ernesto Aldana in the 31st minute to finish with a solid first half lead.

Discipline broke down for the Navy in the second half with Ensign Alex Wilson and Ensign Gabe Merla leaving the match with red cards in the 54th and 66th minutes respectively. 

Despite being down by two players, Navy continued to fight and hold off Army from scoring further.

The 2016 Armed Forces Championship format consists of round robin play, where each team faces one another once for seeding.  The top two best records will face one another in the championship match to claim the 2016 Armed Forces crown.

Army won the 2015 Armed Forces Men’s Championship and are looking to repeat.
