France’s Stein wins playoff to capture CISM Women’s Title; Team USA Captures Gold

In a head-to-head battle through 18, France’s Pauline Stein and USA’s Melanie De Leon of Fort Cavazos, Texas forced a championship playoff at the Admiral Baker Golf Course at Naval Base San Diego, Calif on Friday. 

On the green, Stein was able to take the lead, winning her first CISM gold medal. Stein stayed steady throughout the tournament shooting 2-under par, never wavering above par in four rounds.

De Leon and teammate Kimberly Liu of Minot AFB, N.D. finished the championship winning silver and bronze respectively. 

Team USA behind De Leon, Liu and Margaret Gross of MCB Camp Lejeune, N.C. held the lead from day one, finishing with a seven-stroke lead over team France to win USA’s 10th CISM Women’s gold medal.

France kept the competition close behind strong play from Stein and teammates Marine Riguidel, and 
Josephine Farrando. 

Team Germany took Bronze behind players Lisa Loeper, Ines Gohlke, and Marie Knebel.

The 14th Edition of the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Golf Championship featured 17 total nations, the most at a CISM Golf Championship. 

Presenting the medals for the Women Team medalist was legend, and most decorated CISM Golfer in history, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Linda Jeffery of Maxwell AFB, Ala.

Presenting the individual medals was Naval Base San Diego Commanding Officer and host, CAPT Robert Heely. 

Players competed in four rounds of stroke-play golf, with teams of three women each. The top two scores from the team counted for the team tally.
