Air Force edges out Navy in final seconds of game-three

Air Force Staff Sgt. Charmaine Clark of Robbins AFB and Staff Sgt. Tiffany Guthrie of Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson each posted double-doubles as Air Force defeated Navy 64-61 during day-two of the 2016 Armed Forces Women’s Basketball Championship at the Chaparral Fitness Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland AFB, Texas on July 2nd.

Navy lead throughout the first half (32-30) of the game until Air Force pulled ahead at the end of the third quarter with the score at 49-47.

Air Force held on the lead until Navy’s Petty Officer 2nd Class Christie Ayers of Springfield, Va. tied the game at 59-59.

Air Force prevailed in the final 15 seconds to win 64-61. 

Clark registered 22-points and 10-rebounds and Guthrie tallied 11-points and 16 rebounds. Navy’s Petty Officer Taylor Jones of NAS Norfolk, Va. led the team with 16-points. 

Navy faces Marine Corps and Army faces Air Force in day-three action on July 3rd. 

The 2016 Armed Forces Championship format consists of double round robin play, where each team faces one another twice for seeding.  The top two best records will face one another in the championship match to claim the 2016 Armed Forces crown.
