(Raffa, Bahrain) – The U.S. Men and Women Armed Forces
Golf teams won respective gold medals for the seventh time during the 8th Conseil
International du Sport Military (CISM) World Military Golf Championship held in
Bahrain, Nov. 13-21, 2014.
Air Force Maj. Linda Jeffery of Camp Smith, Hawaii won
her sixth individual CISM Golf gold medal in the women’s division. Along with
Navy Lt. Nicole Johnson of NAS Lemoore, Calif., the U.S. women dominated the
field of play on their way to gold. Johnson also reached the podium by winning
individual women’s bronze.
Final Women’s Division standings: USA – 1st; Uganda – 2nd; Germany – 3rd.
On the men’s side, Army Spc. Jordan-Tyler Massey of
Fort Hood, Texas and Army Capt. Joseph Cave of Fort Bliss, Texas captured
silver and bronze respectively leading the U.S. men to gold over host nation
Bahrain.
Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Spencer Mims of Joint Base
Langley-Eustis, Va. earned individual gold in the Men’s Senior Division.
The 2014 CISM Golf Championship featured over 80
golfers from 16 nations. The U.S. Armed Forces team was selected immediately
following the 2014 Armed Forces Golf Championship at Joint Base San
Antonio-Randolph, Nov. 5-10.
The U.S. teams will reassemble in 10 months to compete
at the 6th CISM World Military Games in South Korea, Oct. 2-11, 2015. Korea is expecting over 110 nations and 6,500
military athletes from around the world. The U.S. will attempt to capture their
8th team gold.
