(San Antonio, TX) Navy Women win their fourth consecutive
team gold medal and Army Men take their first team gold medal
during the 2014 Armed Forces Championship was held 5-9 November at Joint
Base San Antonio-Randolph, TX.
Air Force Maj Linda Jeffrey (Camp Smith, HI) and Navy
Lieut. Nicole Johnson (NAS Lemoore, CA) return to the U.S. Armed Forces Golf
roster that will compete in the 2014 Conseil International du Sport
Militaire (CISM) World Military Championship in Bahrain 13-21 November.
Jeffrey captured gold by delivering a solid 74 on the
final day finishing with a score of 306 strokes. Jeffrey, who has captured five CISM
individual gold medals, returns to Team USA along with Johnson. Johnson wins individual silver with a rock-solid performance scoring a
total of 307 strokes after four rounds. The pair won the CISM team gold in 2012 at
NAS Jacksonville, FL.
Army Spec. Alexa Boucher (Fort Bragg, NC) competed in her
first Armed Forces championship and earned the bronze scoring 318 strokes.
In team action, Johnson along with Lieut. Allison Couch
(Rota, Spain) and Cmdr. Dorothea Sledge (MSRD San Diego, CA) combined to
win Navy's fourth straight title with 627 total strokes. Team scoring is compiled using the top two of three women scores.
Air Force Women held on their slim margin for second
place by scoring 644 strokes. Army
placed third with 646 strokes and Marine Corps placed fourth with 788.
The top two women earn a spot on the USA roster for the
CISM World Championship.
On the men's side, Army unseated the Air Force as Armed
Forces Champions with solid play by Spec. Jordan-Tyler Massey (Fort Hood,
TX). Massey won individual gold after scoring 288.
Air Force Staff Sgt. Kyle Wesolowski (Hurlburt Field, FL)
captured silver scoring 298 and Air Force Sen. Master Sgt. Spencer Mims
(Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA) takes bronze scoring 299.
Army Men scored 1497 to capture gold for their first
Armed Forces Men's Team title. Air Force
placed second scoring 1528. Navy place
third scoring 1549 and Marine Corps came in fourth scoring 1557.
The US Men's roster will consist of Massey, Wesolowski,
Mims along with Army Capt. Joseph Cave, Army Sgt. Kaleb Nichols and Navy
Lieut. Will Boyd.
The US has won the team gold in both men and women
divisions in all six CISM Championships competed in. CISM will host the 8th edition of the World Military Championship and will feature 12 nations from
around the world.
