Three Former Mids Representing Team USA at SHAPE Tournament

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Three former Naval Academy basketball players are competing on the Team USA All-Armed Forces Team at the 2013 SHAPE International Basketball Tournament this week in Mons, Belgium.

The former Navy basketball players competing on Team USA are Jordan Sugars ('12), Romeo Garcia ('11) and Calvin White ('07).

Sugars played in 116 games at Navy and was a 1,000-point scorer. Sugars ranks 14th in Navy history with his 1,346 career points and is 10th with 624 career rebounds. Sugars was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team in 2011.

Garcia played in 96 games at Navy and scored 516 career points. Garcia was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team in 2008. White competed in 36 games from the 2004 to 2007 seasons.

The tournament begins on Monday in Belgium with round robin play. Team USA will play Italy on Tuesday, Belgium on Wednesday and Kazakhstan on Friday. The finals, which will be determined based on pool play performance, will be held on Saturday.

The other countries participating are the United Kingdom, France, Latvia and Lithuania.

Team USA has been in Germany for training camp prior to the tournament taking on professional teams.

SHAPE is an acronym for the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. SHAPE is the Headquarters of Allied Command Operations (ACO), one of NATO's two strategic military commands.
