SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
The 2026 Armed Forces Cross Country Championship witnessed a thrilling competition at the Windcrest Golf Club, with the Army women’s team and the Navy men’s team emerging as the dominant forces, securing their respective team titles. The event brought together the most elite runners from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard for a fierce battle for individual and team glory.
The women’s 8K race saw a familiar face at the top of the podium. Staff Sgt. Colett Rampf-Cribbs of Fort Carson, Colo., captured her third consecutive gold medal, having also won in 2024 and 2025.
Rampf-Cribbs finished with a commanding time of 29:01.9. Her teammate, Sgt.Ednah Kurgat, who was the 2023 champion, earned the silver medal with a time of 29:03.7.
Navy Lt. Megan Walsh of San Diego, Calif. rounded out the top three with a bronze-medal finish.
Led by the remarkable performance of Rampf-Cribbs and Kurgat, the Army women’s team handily won the team competition with a low score of 19 points. The Navy women’s team, the 2025 champions, finished in second place with 27 points, followed by the Air Force with 33 points.
In a stunning upset in the men’s 10K race, Navy Ensign Murphy Smith, a newcomer from Boston, Mass., claimed the individual gold medal in his first-ever Armed Forces championship, finishing with a time of 31:15.1.
Air Force Senior Airman Daniel Michalski of Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas took in the silver medal with a time of 31:25.1, while his teammate, Capt Timothy Hendricks, took bronze.
The team title came down to a tiebreaker with both Navy and Air Force earning 31 points. Navy Lt. Zachary Anderson of Silverdale, Wash. edged out Air Force Senior Airman Brett Greene of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. to elevate Navy to the top of the podium.
The Army men's team placed third with 75 points.
The championship showcased the exceptional athleticism and dedication of the nation's service members, with many familiar rivalries and some surprising new champions.
