HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. –
Elite military volleyball players from around the world will compete here this week to determine the best of the best at the 2018 Armed Forces Volleyball Championship.
The annual AFVC, featuring teams from Army, Navy (with Coast Guard) and Air Force, will be held in the Aderholt Fitness Center at Hurlburt Field, Fla., May 7-11. The opening ceremony begins at 9 a.m. on May 8, followed by the first set of matches beginning at 10 a.m.
The annual championship will be conducted in a triple round robin format to determine the champions of the event. From this championship, Armed Forces Sports will select Team USA to compete at the World Military Championship in Edmonton, Canada.
The Armed Forces Sports program is the culmination of each military service’s sports and fitness program. Service members participate and compete at unit level intramurals and advance to the All-Service level where they can compete in national and international competitions.
The U.S. Armed Forces Volleyball teams are chosen by a selection committee that is made of the Service Branch Representatives on site. The top players from each Service that are available to advance forward to the World Military Championship have the chance to earn a spot on that team. The winning coaches from each men’s and women’s tournament will also be selected to lead the U.S. teams to Canada.
