Qatar defeated the U.S. Armed Forces Men’s Soccer 5-1 team during their first match-up of the 2017 Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Football Cup pool play at the Royal Oman Police Stadium on January 17 in in Muscat, Oman.
Qatar scored early in the 12th minute, but the U.S. settled down to end the first half 1-0. Qatar, however, opened up the score in the 49th and 53rd minutes to jump ahead of the U.S. squad.
Qatar scored their fourth goal in the 79th minute and the U.S. fired back with a goal by Air Force 1st Lt. Caleb Downey in the 83rd minute.
Qatar immediately fired back with their fifth and final goal a minute later to seal the game.
USA faces Mali and Qatar will go up against Ireland on Thursday, 19 January. Mali and Ireland tied in their first match-up as part of Pool-C in the tournament that features 16 military teams from around the world.
