USA and Ireland wrap up pool play

Ireland defeated the U.S. Armed Forces Men’s Soccer 6-1 team during the final match of the 2017 Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Football Cup pool play at the Sultan Qaboos Stadium on January 21 in in Muscat, Oman. 

With Mali and Qatar set to advance to the knock-out phase, the U.S. took advantage to play their reserves.  U.S. and Ireland played a hard fought match after a week with both teams sharing camaraderie and espirit de corps.  

In the knockout phase, Qatar and host nation Oman advanced to the championship match ending in a 0-0 tie.  After overtime, Oman outdueled Qatar in penalty kicks to win the championship.

The next CISM Men’s World Championship will be part of the Military World Games in Wuhan, China in 2019.
