Armed Forces Wrestlers Grapple At National Wrestling Championships

Armed Forces wrestlers once again dominated the U.S. National Wrestling Greco-Roman Championship this week held in Las Vegas, NV. The Armed Forces took home gold or silver in all but two Greco-Roman weight classes.

Leading the way was SrA Jeff Cervone (Peterson Air Force Base, CO) taking home the gold in the 119lbs weight class with a 2-1 referee decision over two time Olympian Shawn Sheldon of Colorado Springs, CO.

In the 152lbs weight class, Sgt. Marcel Cooper (MCB Quantico, VA), a first time national champion, won by a referee decision over SSgt Steven Woods (Luke Air Force Base, AZ).

Sgt. Keith Sieracki (Fort Carson, CO) conquered T.C. Dantzler (Colorado Springs, CO) in a 5-0 defeat in the gold medal match. Sieracki won his last national championship in 1996 and was a runner up in the 2000 Olympic Trials.

In the Freestyle championship, Sgt. Dominic Black (Fort Carson, CO) stole the show in the 213.75lbs weight class. Black a second year national champion defeated (4-0) Chad Lamer (Coralville, IA) in the gold medal match.
